FINANCING
ADEQUATE SHELTER FOR ALL: WHAT AND WHERE ARE THE BEST EXPERIENCES
AND STRATEGIES FOR FUTURE ACTIONS ON THE IMPLEMENTATION
OF THE HABITAT AGENDA
This
Session is Organized by UNCHS (Habitat) with the support
of Sweden, holding the Presidency of the European Union.
It
is to be held on 6 June 2001, from 14.30 -17.30hrs in Conference
Room 6 at the U.N. Secretariat in New York.
INTRODUCTION
The
Habitat Agenda committed Governments at all levels, the
private sector and all civil society (NGO) actors, to take
action in strengthening and enhancing wider accessibility
of housing finance systems and to eradicate all forms of
discrimination against borrowers, with a view to facilitating
the realisation of the universal goal of adequate shelter
for all.
HOW
BEST CAN THIS COMMITTMENT BE ADDRESSED AND REALIZED?
This
Parallel Event at the Istanbul + 5 Session in New York
will
present the report and conclusions of the Gavle (Sweden)
Inter-Regional Seminar on Housing Finance Operations Experiences
and provide an opportunity of a broader-based dialogue,
exchange and comparison of ideas, experiences and reflections
on more effective strategies to leverage and mobilize greater
resources for sustainable housing finance in the implementation
of the Habitat Aganda.
A
panel of distinguished experts on housing finance will address
the session to further explore the issues involved and chart
the way forward
on
how best to improve, promote, and advance on the mobilization
and access of resources for housing, especially for the
low-income segment of the population.
Leaders
of Housing Finance Institutions, Development Banks, Government
Policy Makers, including leaders of Local Authorities, as
well as other relevant actors and civil society groups will
participate.
