Slum Upgrading Initiatives

Slums are as a result of many factors, including rural-urban migration and urban population growth without corresponding housing provision. Most slums have no security of tenure, a fact that has been used to explain the reluctance to improve housing and related infrastructure. The Global Campaign for Secure Tenure has identified the provision of secure tenure as essential for a sustainable shelter strategy. The 3 Cities Project , the Cities without Slums Sub-regional Programme for Eastern and Southern Africa and the Kenya slum upgrading programme , are some of the programmes through which the Campaign is undertaking to tackle the problems of slums and the people who live and work in them.
