UN-HABITAT launches secure tenure campaign in Thailand.
Bangkok, 11 October 2005 – During the week of World Habitat Day 3-8 October UN-HABITAT launched its Global Campaign for Secure Tenure and Cities without Slums programme in Thailand.

Regional Workshop Cities Without Slums Report
Some 50 delegates from East, Central and Southern Africa participated in a two-day highly successful meeting on the Cities Without Slums (CWS) programme at the UN-HABITAT headquarters in Nairobi on 22-23 September 2005. They included delegates from the eight CWS participating cities- Addis Ababa ( Ethiopia), Kisumu (Kenya), Kampala (Uganda), Arusha (Tanzania), Blantyre (Malawi), Maputo (Mozambique), Maseru (Lesotho), and Durban (South Africa), who comprised of officials from local authorities, representatives of NGOs, CBOs, HPMs and UN-HABITAT country teams .

Launch of the campaigns for Secure Tenure and Urban Governance in Cuba
The Urban Governance and Secure Tenure campaigns were jointly launched 26 and 27 June in Cuba. A popular launch in the city of Barrio Las Guàsimas on the 26th was followed by the official launch in la Havana on the 27th.The popular launch saw the participation of the population of Barrio Las Guàsimas and Managua, who interacted with participants invited from several regions and countries where the campaigns are already launched. The representatives of the Philippines, Senegal, Brazil highlighted the role of the campaigns in their respective countries.

Sounding the alarm on forced evictions

AGFE undertakes missions to select countries:
The International Advisory Group on Forced Evictions established by the UN-HABITAT in 2004 has embarked on missions to select countries to engage authorities in finding solutions to forced evictions. A team of Network members undertook such a mission to Rome from 16-17 February 2005.

New housing policy targets Kenyan urban slum dwellers
Nairobi 24 April 2004 - The Kenya cabinet has approved a National Housing Policy and sent it to Parliament for endorsement to address the urban slum and housing shortage problems, deputy minister for roads, public works and housing, Joshua Toro said.
