| Publications on housing policy and development
UN-HABITAT has produced a wide range of publications, reports documents and other material within the three focus areas covered by HPDS. A number of these are available electronically, and are organized in the following thematic categories:
A large part of these electronic publications are also available in a format which -- when downloaded to your own computer -- allows complex searches across all publications at the same time.
As a number of publications produced in the past are out of stock
in hard copy, efforts are currently underway to make some of these available
in electronic format.
Requirements of the various electronic formats
The publications and other material accessible at this web-site are available in the following formats:

CHM (compiled HTML) files require that the computer is running Microsoft Windows 98 or later -- OR Microsoft Windows 95 WITH Internet Explorer 4 (or later).
This format allows complex text searches of one or several publications at the same time.

ZIP files have been included to overcome restrictions at some web-sites with regard to transferring CHM files. The files require WinZip or similar to uncompress the files. Once such files have been unzipped users will be able to open the CHM file which it contains.

PDF files require that the Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed on the computer. If you do not have Acrobat Reader, it may be downloaded for free. You would have to do it only once.
The 'green' files includes hyperlinks and are considerably larger (and thus slower) to download.
The 'red' files does not include hyperlinks and are considerably smaller (and thus faster) to download. The 'yellow' files are non-searchable graphical files.

If you have problems downloading the standard installation programme, try downloading the installation programme in smaller parts.
NOTE: DOWNLOAD (COPY) ALL FILES ONTO YOUR HARDDISK, ALL FILES MUST BE SAVED IN THE SAME DIRECTORY AND RUN SETUP-FULL.EXE.

If none of the above work, try downloading the common and help files separately.
Then download each of the individual publications (chm format) only) separately.
This approach can also be used if you have already installed an earlier version of the "Selected UN-HABITAT publications", and want to add new publications to your existing collection
(e.g. download the new "Common file" and any new publications).
NOTE: ALL FILES MUST BE SAVED IN THE SAME DIRECTORY. |
