The SCP Process
Since inception in the early 1990’s SCP has worked with numerous cities worldwide, resulting in a wealth of practical experience in environmental planning and management (EPM). This experience has been captured and translated into effective tools - in the form of manuals - that can be used to inform, support and guide the environmental planning process in cities. The tools are intended for the various actors involved in environmental planning and management, that is, local authority officials, policy makers, political leaders, NGOs, CBOs, the private sector and other city stakeholders. As the tools draw from the experiences of many different cities, they are easily adapted and can be applied to any city situation.
The tools can be categorised into Process Specific Tools and Issue Specific Tools. The process specific tools provide guidance on the step-by-step SCP process. They are particularly useful for cities that are embarking on implementing an environmental planning and management programme. The crosscutting tools complement the process specific tools while the issue specific tools focus on typical issues addressed by the EPM.
The tools are written and designed in a friendly, non-technical style with numerous examples and illustrations.
