Local Elected Leadership Training of Trainers, Sinaia, Romania, 15-22 May 2005
This Training of Trainers (ToT) was the first regional training workshop to use the revised edition of UN-HABITAT's Local Elected Leadership (LEL) series. The workshop was run by the highly experienced group of trainers of the Partners for Local Development Foundation
(FPDL), in collaboration with UN-HABITAT's Training and Capacity Building Branch. It brought together a total of 19 trainers from around the world, the majority of them from Central
Eastern European/South Eastern European countries with the remaining trainers coming from African and Asian countries.
The workshop covered the dual roles and responsibilities of elected official, Representation and Leadership, and four of the 10 key competencies (communication,
decision-making, policy building and institution building) detailed in the revised LEL series. The ToT focused on improving participant's knowledge and skills in the design and conduct of interactive participatory training
programmes in the field of leadership for local government officials. The workshop also sought to guide participants in developing Action Plans in order to implement, in their respective countries, training programmes that would improve the leadership competencies of public leaders and managers.
This ToT was a great success and clearly highlighted the fact that activities and partnerships in the region are stronger than ever.
